Balan The Boy, the first Malayalam film of KVN Productions, received applause and cheers following its showcase at the Marché du Film of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, giving the film a strong start on the international stage. The screening was welcomed with loud cheers from audiences present, marking a memorable moment for the team at Cannes.
Backed by Venkat K Narayana’s production banner along with Shailaja Desai Fenn’s Thespian Films, the Malayalam drama has steadily been building curiosity in film circles, with its Cannes showcase further increasing attention around the project.
The film also received support from several members of the industry, including actor Kalyani Priyadarshan and filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra and Ashutosh Gowariker, who acknowledged the project following the screening.
Directed by Chidambaram and written by Jithu Madhavan, Balan The Boy is described as an emotional drama centred on identity, belonging and emotional survival. While the makers are yet to reveal more details about the story, the response at Cannes has added to the anticipation surrounding the film.
KVN Productions’ entry into Malayalam cinema after previously backing Kannada and pan-Indian films, Balan The Boy releases in theatres on June 19, 2026, in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
