The controversy surrounding the song 'Sarse Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse' from KD: The Devil produced by Venkat Narayana's KVN Productions has taken a sharper turn, with the Karnataka State Women’s Commission stepping in and seeking accountability. Chairperson Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary has raised strong objections to the lyrics, calling them obscene and disrespectful towards women, and has formally written to the Regional Censor Board as well as the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, asking for immediate action and a detailed report.
Stating that cinema is a powerful medium that shapes public behaviour, she expressed concern that such lyrics risk normalising casual and derogatory references to women in society. She also noted that she personally found the song uncomfortable, adding that she could not sit through it in its entirety.
The song, directed and written by Prem as part of the promotions for the film, features Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi and quickly drew criticism after its release. As the backlash grew, the Hindi version of the track was pulled down from YouTube following multiple complaints and intervention from the National Human Rights Commission.
While this move marks the first visible step in response to the outrage, questions remain over what action will follow for the Kannada and other language versions of the song, as the debate around content and accountability in cinema continues to gather momentum.
