As Ugadi approaches, ZEE5 Kannada is set to bring a dose of rustic action drama to home screens with the digital premiere of Landlord. The film will begin streaming on the platform from March 19.
Directed by Jadeshaa K Hampi and backed by Sarathi Films, the action drama unfolds in the rural landscape of 1980s Karnataka. Set in a village shaped by authority, lingering tensions, and quiet shifts in power, the story builds intrigue while slowly revealing the lives and conflicts of its characters.
The film is led by Vijaya Kumar, with RAj B Shetty playing the antagonist, with Rachita Ram playing the female lead. Speaking about his role, Vijaya Kumar describes his character Rachayya as someone who speaks little but carries much within. “Rachayya is a man who internalises more than he expresses. The emotional arc is subtle but deeply impactful, and portraying that quiet strength was a meaningful experience. I look forward to audiences discovering his journey on ZEE5,” he says.
Rachita Ram points to the contrast between the setting and the emotional intensity of the narrative. “The simplicity of the village backdrop contrasts with the intensity of the emotions. My character stands at the centre of several defining moments, and the honesty in the storytelling is something viewers will connect with,” she adds.
The ensemble cast also includes Rithanya Vijay, Shishir Baikady, Umashree, Bhavana Rao, Rakesh Adiga, and Achyuth Kumar, each adding to the layered world the film attempts to portray. The music and background score are composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, cinematography is handled by Swamy J Gowda, and editing is by K M Prakash. The film’s art direction is by Ravi Santhehaklu, while the action sequences are choreographed by Ravi Varma among others.
