Actor Ramya appeared before the 46th CCH Court in Bengaluru on Tuesday to record her statement in connection with the case against 11 individuals accused of posting obscene comments on her Instagram account. The hearing was conducted in a closed courtroom due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Ramya had earlier filed a complaint alleging that she was receiving abusive messages and sexually explicit comments on social media. Following the complaint, police arrested 11 accused persons and later filed a chargesheet against them. With the court formally taking up the case, the trial has now begun.

During the hearing, Ramya submitted her statement as the complainant. She reportedly provided details about her professional journey in cinema and politics, along with information about her Instagram account and the messages allegedly sent by the accused through the platform.

Considering the nature of the allegations, the proceedings were held in camera, with Judge E Rajeev Gowda overseeing the hearing.

Speaking to the media after the court appearance, Ramya said she had submitted the required evidence and would return for cross-examination during the next hearing.

“I was asked to present evidence today, and I have done that. The next stage will be cross-examination,” she said.

The actor clarified that pursuing the case was never a personal vendetta but a larger stand against online harassment faced by women.

“I have no personal desire to put anyone through this process. When I see them, I feel bad as well. But this fight is not for me. It is for every woman,” Ramya said.

She added that trolling and harassment of women on social media have become disturbingly common. “Women are constantly abused online. They are threatened with rape and murder, and sometimes even sent obscene images. If I step back now, it will only encourage more of this behaviour,” she said.

Ramya stressed that the case is about accountability and safety. “If this were only about me, I could have withdrawn the case long ago. But I am standing here because social media must become a safer space for women,” she added.
