The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce recently held a formal event to celebrate 93 years of Kannada cinema, marking an important milestone in the industry’s history. This occasion recognised the release of Kannada’s first talkie film, Sati Sulochana, which also celebrated its 93rd anniversary this year.
At the gathering, the newly elected president of the Film Chamber, Jayamala, shared her insights about the remarkable journey of Kannada cinema. She honored the pioneers who established the industry during its early days and recognised the ongoing efforts of artists, filmmakers, and technicians who have contributed to its steady growth over the decades.
In her speech, Jayamala stressed the need to remember those who built Kannada cinema with dedication and vision during a time of limited resources and an evolving medium. She pointed out that the industry has gone through various phases, responding to changing times while maintaining its cultural identity and linguistic pride.
The celebration served as a moment for collective remembrance and appreciation for the achievements of the past 93 years. It highlighted the creativity and commitment that have shaped Kannada cinema into a major regional film industry with a lasting legacy.
The event gained highlight with the presence of Girija Lokesh, the daughter-in-law of Subbaiah Naidu, who played the lead role in Kannada’s first film.
