Darshan Thoogudeepa has approached the Supreme Court seeking clarification on its earlier order that rejected his bail plea in the Renukaswamy murder case. The actor has requested the apex court to clarify that he may file a fresh bail application before the completion of the one-year period mentioned in the court's previous order if circumstances warrant such relief.

Darshan's latest application comes a little over a month after the Supreme Court declined to grant him bail while observing that he could approach the court again after a year if there was no substantial progress in the trial. According to the actor's plea, that observation was intended as a safeguard against prolonged incarceration and should not be interpreted as a blanket restriction preventing him from seeking bail earlier in the event of significant developments.

In the application, Darshan has argued that the trial has been progressing at a slow pace and that the earlier order should not bar courts from considering a fresh bail request if new circumstances emerge. He has contended that prolonged custody, health concerns, or further delays in the trial could justify a renewed plea for relief.

The actor has been in custody since August 2025, when the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted to him and several co-accused by the Karnataka High Court. While revoking the bail, the apex court had stressed that no accused person should receive special treatment because of celebrity status and directed that the case be handled strictly in accordance with law.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court also sought a status report on the progress of the trial, expressing concern over delays in recording evidence. Reports submitted before the court indicated that only a fraction of the listed witnesses had been examined, raising questions about the timeline for completion of the proceedings.

The Renukaswamy murder case stems from the alleged abduction and killing of Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy in June 2024. Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda, and several others have been named as accused in the case, which has remained under intense public and media scrutiny since the actor's arrest.

The Supreme Court is expected to consider Darshan's fresh application in the coming days. The outcome could have a significant bearing on the actor's legal strategy as the trial continues in Bengaluru.
