Veteran Kannada actor Doddanna has filed a police complaint after a fake social media post falsely claimed that he had passed away, triggering widespread panic among fans and well-wishers.
The actor alleged that the post was digitally manipulated using AI tools and deliberately circulated on social media. Calling the incident deeply distressing, Doddanna said the rumour caused him immense mental anguish and shock. He has urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible for creating and spreading the false information.
On June 15, Doddanna lodged a complaint with the North Division Cyber Crime Police Station. Based on the complaint, the cyber police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and launched an investigation against unidentified individuals involved in the hoax.
Earlier, Doddanna had addressed the issue through a video message, reassuring fans that he was healthy and safe. “Before I even woke up in the morning, some irresponsible people had posted that I had died. It is completely false. I am healthy and doing well,” he said, thanking fans for their concern and blessings.
The actor revealed that he had been flooded with calls throughout the day from worried friends, family members and admirers, prompting him to issue the clarification. He also vowed to pursue legal action against those behind the malicious campaign.
The fake news reportedly originated from a Facebook page that shared an edited poster claiming the actor's death. Doddanna has appealed to the public not to believe or circulate such fabricated content, stressing that misinformation can have serious emotional and social consequences.
