The upcoming Kannada film Boss, scheduled for a statewide release on June 19, has run into fresh legal trouble just days before its theatrical debut.
Actor Darshan and his wife, Vijayalakshmi, have approached the Karnataka High Court seeking a stay on the film's release. The petitioners have filed an appeal (MFA No. 4257/2026) challenging a recent order of the city civil court that cleared the way for the film's release.
The move stems from allegations that Boss, directed by Lava and starring Thanush Shivanna, is based on the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan, along with several others, is currently involved in legal proceedings related to the case, which remains before the courts. The petitioners have reportedly objected to the film's depiction of events and characters while the matter is still sub judice.
Earlier, the civil court had vacated an interim injunction that temporarily restrained the release of Boss. Following that order, the film's team announced that the much-discussed project would hit screens across Karnataka this week.
However, the latest appeal has once again cast uncertainty over the film's release plans. According to reports, the petitioners have raised serious objections relating to the film's storyline, character portrayals, and other disputed elements, and have sought an immediate interim stay from the High Court.
With the release date drawing closer, the case has attracted attention. But for now, the future of Boss rests on the outcome of the High Court proceedings and whether the court permits the film to release as scheduled on June 19.
