Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran has once again expressed his admiration for Kannada cinema, revealing that Shivarajkumar and Upendra's cult classic Om is one of his all-time favourite films.
One of Indian cinema's most accomplished actor-directors, Prithviraj has built a remarkable career across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films. A passionate cinephile, he recently shared his favourite films from different Indian languages during an interview while promoting his upcoming release, Khalifa.
When asked to name his favourite Kannada film, Prithviraj chose Om without hesitation. He praised Upendra's writing and direction while hailing Shivarajkumar's unforgettable performance in the 1995 gangster classic.
"Om is one of my favourite Kannada films. The way Upendra wrote and directed the film is extraordinary. The one and only Shivarajkumar's performance makes it one of my all-time favourite movies," Prithviraj said.
The actor also named his favourites from other industries. He picked Deewaar as his favourite Hindi film, Baahubali from Telugu cinema, Thevar Magan, starring Kamal Haasan and Sivaji Ganesan, from Tamil, and Mammootty's Boothakkannadi from Malayalam.
Although Prithviraj has not acted in a Kannada film yet, he has maintained a close association with the industry. He distributed KGF in Kerala and has often spoken about his admiration for Kannada filmmakers and their storytelling.
On the work front, Prithviraj is gearing up for the release of Khalifa, director Vysakh's action thriller, which is slated to hit theatres on August 20. He is also part of SS Rajamouli's ambitious globe-trotting adventure, Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, where he is playing the primary antagonist.
Nearly three decades after its release, Om continues to inspire actors and filmmakers across the country, and Prithviraj's admiration is yet another reminder of the lasting legacy created by Upendra and Shivarajkumar.
