The teaser for Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions, has sparked controversy. The Child Rights Commission has reportedly written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asking for immediate action. This follows a complaint from High Court advocate Lohith Hanumapur, who claims some visuals in the teaser are inappropriate and could negatively influence children.
The Commission has stated in its letter that certain scenes in the teaser are obscene and may harm the mental health and development of minors. They have recommended that the teaser be limited or removed from social media. Additionally, they suggested that the filmmakers consider replacing the disputed visuals with different shots. The Commission has asked the CBFC to look into the issue according to the rules and provide a report on the actions taken.
The situation gained attention after Lohith Hanumapur filed a formal complaint against the teaser, arguing that it includes content that breaches child rights and social responsibility. In response to the complaint, the Child Rights Commission contacted the censor body, escalating the matter to a regulatory level.
Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli has also filed a complaint with the CBFC, claiming that the teaser contains sexually suggestive and morally questionable visuals that could adversely affect minors. In his complaint to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, he requested the removal of the scenes and called for legal action against the film’s director and producers. On January 12, the AAP women’s wing also reportedly submitted a complaint regarding the teaser.
While Toxic, has created buzz since its teaser launch, the controversy has now shifted focus to regulatory review and potential corrective actions. Currently, there has been no official response from the film’s makers or the CBFC.
The next steps will depend on the CBFC’s review and the recommendations sent to the Child Rights Commission, which could decide whether the teaser remains online or needs modifications.
The film, produced by KVN Productions and Monster Minds, features an ensemble cast, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria, and Huma Qureshi. Rajeev Ravi is responsible for the film's cinematography, while Ravi Basrur is scoring the music.
