More than four years after fans started pushing to recognize Puneeth Rajkumar’s life in classrooms, the late Kannada superstar may soon appear in school textbooks. The Karnataka Textbook Society has stated that they will review a proposal to introduce a chapter on the actor’s life and achievements during the next phase of textbook preparation and revision.

This move highlights Puneeth’s importance beyond cinema. He was a cultural icon, philanthropist, and role model whose influence reached far beyond the screen. Officials noted that his journey, from a celebrated child star to one of Kannada cinema’s biggest names and a respected humanitarian, provides a compelling story for students, rooted in discipline, empathy, and public service.

The proposal started with a fan petition and gained momentum after the state’s Minister for School Education and Literacy endorsed it, giving the initiative formal support from the education department.

Puneeth Rajkumar’s charitable work was extensive. He supported 26 orphanages, 16 old-age homes, and 19 gaushalas, and provided financial help to over 4,800 underprivileged children. After his unexpected death, the donation of his eyes further extended his legacy, sparking renewed public discussions about organ donation.

If approved, Puneeth would join his father, the legendary Dr. Rajkumar, who is already featured in the Class 6 first-language Kannada textbook. While a chapter on Puneeth is confirmed for consideration, officials still need to decide which grade level will include the lesson.

Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar has expressed gratitude, calling the recognition very meaningful for their family. She mentioned that this addition would help children understand Puneeth’s values and character beyond his films. Sharing the news with their children was an emotional experience for her, highlighting how unique it is for an artist’s life to be recognised in an academic setting. She also thanked the Karnataka government for this honor.

The idea of adding Puneeth Rajkumar’s life to school textbooks was first proposed in 2022 when a fan from T Narasipura made a formal request to the state government. With official consideration now in progress, the proposal is a step closer to becoming policy and solidifying the late actor’s legacy in classrooms across Karnataka.
