Rivers rarely speak, but they carry stories of land, memory, survival, and loss. Whispers of the River attempts to listen to those unheard stories, using cinema as a medium to revisit humanity’s fragile relationship with nature and tradition.

Directed by K Prabhakaran, the film places agriculture, identity, and generational conflict at the centre of its narrative while exploring how modern aspirations often drift away from the soil that nurtures them.

Manjunath Pai leads the film and has also written the screenplay, adding a personal and rooted perspective to the storytelling. The film is produced by Radhakrishna Pai, Vivek Vincent, and Sriram C under the Meena’s Studio banner. Interestingly, the film has been shaped through the collective effort of professionals connected to agricultural livelihoods, along with cinema technicians and theatre artistes, giving the narrative an organic sense of authenticity.

The story follows a young man who leaves his job and returns to his village with dreams of expanding an agriculture-related business. His return, however, brings him into conflict with his father, whose outlook towards land and life is shaped by tradition and lived experience. As the narrative progresses, the son slowly rediscovers his emotional connection with the land, rivers, and cultural values that define his roots.

The film captures rural life through everyday details. Farmers’ daily practices, folk traditions, Yakshagana, and the shared rhythm of village community life are woven naturally into the narrative. Through these layers, the film also reflects on the need to protect rivers and sustain ecological balance.

The recently released teaser has drawn encouraging responses for its grounded storytelling and visual tone. The film has also received positive feedback from audiences and industry members during premiere screenings.

Rohit Poojari has composed the music, complementing the film’s earthy and reflective mood, while cinematographer K Sathyaraj lends a visually immersive quality to the narrative by capturing landscapes with a naturalistic approach. The film also features Shabana, Kantara fame Prabhakar Kunder, and late Prabhakar Kalyani in prominent roles.

With its emphasis on rooted storytelling and socially relevant themes, Whispers of the River is positioned as a content-driven drama suited for the evolving OTT audience. The film is expected to stream soon, offering viewers an introspective story that blends personal emotion with environmental consciousness.
