

At 75, Dr Ramesh Kamath continues to leave an indelible mark on Saraswath Konkani cinema. A filmmaker, scholar, musician, writer, and cultural custodian, Kamath has directed five of the roughly ten Saraswath Konkani films ever produced, making him a pioneer in the industry.
His latest film, Nagna Sathya, is a socially driven family drama that celebrates unity in diversity. For the first time in Konkani cinema, the film uses three dialects — GSB Konkani, Saraswath Konkani, and RSB Konkani. It also features sequences shot at the Stanford University campus in the United States.
Produced by Kiranmayi Kamath and directed by Dr Ramesh, an FTII Pune alumnus, Nagna Sathya was completed in a record two months, with over 50 artistes performing across 38 locations. The film has received a UA certification from the Central Board of Film Certification and premiered recently.
The story of Nagna Sathya, which is inspired by real-life events, follows a middle-class woman deceived and exploited by a man from an elite background. After she dies giving birth to a daughter, the girl grows up to become a journalist and, 20 years later, uncovers the truth, emphasizing the power of journalism as the fourth pillar of justice.
The film stars actor Adhya Nayak in a dual role as mother and daughter, alongside Telugu actor Gopinath Bhat (Arjun Reddy) as a corrupt police officer. The cast also includes Greeshma Prabhu, Colonel Ashok Kini (former security officer to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam), philanthropist Dr Dayananda Pai, BV Ganesh Prabhu, Anand Nagarkar, and Meera Nayampalli.
Dr Ramesh’s has gained degrees in Electrical, Sound, and Computer Engineering, along with a doctorate in Psychology from the UK. His films have been screened at international festivals including Kolkata and Bengaluru.
A former government officer and ex-director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Dr Ramesh continues to be active as a musician, writer, dramatist, magician, Vastu consultant, and motivational speaker. Recognized with the Kempegowda Award and multiple lifetime achievement honours, he remains driven by a singular goal: to keep Saraswath Konkani cinema alive.
