An accident occurred at the Hyderabad pre-release event of the Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups on Saturday night, after a sound system pole collapsed at Malla Reddy University, leaving three students injured. The event, held ahead of the film’s release, on Wednesday was attended by Yash along with producer Venkat K Narayana and members of the cast and crew, including Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair. A large number of students and fans had gathered at the university campus for the event.
The excitement around Yash’s arrival quickly turned tense when a structure supporting sound equipment and floodlights collapsed. Some youngsters had reportedly climbed onto the structures in an attempt to get a closer look at the actor.
The structure lost its balance and came crashing down, with the sound boxes falling along with it. Three students were injured in the incident. A young woman at the venue also reportedly fainted after witnessing the accident.
Yash, who was on stage at the time, immediately stopped his speech after noticing what had happened. “Hey, is everyone okay? Please, everyone be careful,” the actor told the crowd, visibly concerned.
He asked the security personnel and organisers to attend to those who had been injured. The programme resumed only after the situation was brought under control.
The injured students were rushed to a nearby private hospital in an ambulance. They are currently undergoing treatment and are said to be out of danger.
Police and security personnel moved in to control the crowd, while MLA Malla Reddy was also present as the situation was brought under control. Local police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, in association with Monster Mind Creations. The film stars Yash in the lead, with Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair among the cast. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on August 26.
