What happens when two strangers from different parts of India meet in Bengaluru and have only a day to figure each other out? That is the premise of A DATE, an upcoming romantic drama that unfolds over the course of a single day. The film has completed its shoot and post-production, and PVR-INOX has come on board as its distributor.
The film follows a young woman from North India and a man from South India who meet unexpectedly in Bengaluru. What begins as a chance encounter develops into a day of conversations, hesitation, curiosity and emotional uncertainty. Rather than relying on grand romantic gestures, A DATE focuses on the awkwardness and unpredictability of two people getting to know each other.
The makers have now released ‘Bad Guy’, a rap anthem from the film, as part of its promotional campaign. Written by Sujanith Shetty and Vimal Raj N, the song has music by Moksha Beats and introduces the film’s youthful tone and its central characters.
For Vimal Raj N, A DATE is a move from short films to feature cinema. An IT professional, Vimal had earlier gained attention through his YouTube short films. He has taken on several key roles in the film, handling the story, screenplay, direction and editing.
The film also gives Bengaluru a role beyond being a backdrop. Shot across more than 55 real locations, A DATE uses the city’s streets and spaces as an important part of the characters’ day, allowing their relationship to unfold alongside the city.
Sujanith Shetty and Ashwini Shenoy play the two central characters. With the film largely built around their interactions, their contrasting linguistic and cultural backgrounds become an important part of the story as they navigate an unfamiliar situation together.
Produced under the Weekend Shorts Studio banner, A DATE has cinematography by Vadde Devendra Reddy. The film is now gearing up for its theatrical release, and the makers are expected to announce the release date soon.
