Karthik Sharma’s directorial debut, Bhavantara, is gearing up for release, with its latest poster drawing attention for the questions it raises about the film’s story. The poster features a young woman in an intimate moment with a transgender character but stops short of revealing the nature of their relationship.
The image places the two characters against an earthy backdrop, with Sharma seen in traditional attire and flowers in his hair. Tanvi Rao’s character, dressed differently, is shown leaning towards him. The tagline, ‘An Inner Transition’, adds another clue to the visual, suggesting that the film could deal with a personal or emotional transformation.
The makers have kept the details of the story under wraps, saying that the poster contains several elements for audiences to interpret. The image appears designed to raise questions about the characters and their circumstances.
Based on a real incident, Bhavantara sees Sharma taking on several responsibilities. He has written the story, screenplay and dialogues, directed the film and composed the music. He also plays one of the lead roles alongside Tanvi Rao.
“A story like this has not been attempted in South Indian cinema before. The film has five songs, and Hombale Music has acquired the audio rights. I hope the audience continues to support the film,” says Karthik Sharma, who has taken on multiple responsibilities for his directorial debut.
The film also features Pranav Sridhar, Srivaishnav, Veda Rao and Bhanu. It was shot in Udupi, Bengaluru and locations across Tamil Nadu.
Produced by Kick Media, Bhavantara has Sagar Adkar as the cinematographer and Ashish Hulakund as the editor. The film has completed shooting and is expected to release across Karnataka soon.
