Srimurali is currently shooting for Ugrayudham in Bengaluru, where the makers have begun filming key sequences featuring more than 400 junior artistes. Directed by debutant Puneeth Rudranag and produced by Jayaram Devasamudra under the Suram Movies banner, the film is set against the backdrop of a story from 700 years ago.
The ongoing schedule is taking place at Rockline Studios, where indoor sets have been built by art director Amar. Although Ugrayudham is designed as a largely outdoor film, the team has shifted portions of the shoot indoors because of the monsoon. Filming is expected to move to Thirthahalli once the rains ease.
The historical drama marks Puneeth Rudranag's directorial debut. He has also written the story and screenplay, with Manju Atharva contributing to the screenplay. Sanketh is the cinematographer.
Producer Jayaram Devasamudra, who made his debut with Nidradevi Next Door, has also backed LSD and Nee Nange Allava, both awaiting release.
While the makers have not revealed much about the plot, they say Ugrayudham will feature Srimurali in a role unlike any he has played before. Details about the female lead and the rest of the cast are expected to be announced soon.
The actor, meanwhile, has a busy lineup ahead. He is also awaiting the release of Paraak, directed by Halesh Kogundi. While Paraak is expected to see him in a contemporary setting, Ugrayudham takes him into the world of a historical period drama, making for two contrasting projects in his upcoming slate.
