Mounted on a grand scale and carrying considerable buzz, the film KD's cast and crew assembled for a high-energy trailer launch. The film, directed by Prem and produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, has been made on a massive budget and features a mix of stars from across industries.
Veteran actor Dattanna unveiled the trailer and wished the team success. The stage was filled with key members of the film, including producer Venkat K Narayana, lead actor Dhruva Sarja, actors Ramesh Aravind and Reeshma Nanaiah, music director Arjun Janya, cinematographer William David, and choreographer Bajarangi Mohan.
Director Prem used the occasion to underline the role of the producer in bringing the film together. “We usually call the actor, director, or music director the hero. But for KD, the real hero is KVN,” he said. “For three years, he has supported hundreds of people, taken care of the team, and backed the film with passion. Producers like him should grow further.”
He also described the film’s narrative as character-driven. “What you see in the trailer is the film itself. Every character begins a journey here, and not all of them conclude in expected ways,” he said, adding that KD will release nationwide on April 30.
Dhruva Sarja spoke about the audience’s role in sustaining cinema. “Our industry has reached 93 years because people have encouraged good films from the beginning,” he said. The actor added, “Come watch KD with your family. It’s a complete entertainer, though the story demands some violence.”
He reiterated that the spotlight belongs elsewhere. “Neither I nor Prem are the heroes of this film. The producer is,” he said. He also called co-actor Reeshma Nanaiah a “wonderful performer” and noted that this is his first collaboration with Arjun Janya, who has composed six songs for the film.
Producer Venkat K Narayana kept his speech brief, crediting the team’s effort and his staff. “Prem has made a strong film. Dhruva, Ramesh Aravind, Ravichandran—everyone has put in a lot of work. The film will be before audiences soon,” he said.
Ramesh Aravind offered a glimpse into the film’s tone. “KD stands for Kaali Das, but he writes poetry in blood. My character is named Dharma. Each role in the film carries a contrast,” he said.
The film features six songs composed by Arjun Janya, each choreographed by a different choreographer. Cinematographer William David, known for Vikrant Rona, has handled the visuals.
Set between 1970 and 1975 and inspired by real events, KD unfolds as a gangster drama. The cast extends beyond Kannada cinema, with Ravichandran, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, and Nora Fatehi also part of the film.
