The release of the Kannada film Boss, directed by V Lava and starring Tanush Shivanna, has been stayed by the Bengaluru City Civil Court following a civil suit instituted by Vijayalakshmi Darshan against the makers of the film and other associated parties.

The plaintiff moved the court seeking a temporary injunction, contending that the proposed release would infringe upon her rights and interests in relation to Darshan Thoogudeepa. Upon preliminary consideration, the court granted an ex parte ad interim injunction, restraining the respondents from proceeding with the release of the film until further orders.

In its observation, the court recorded that a prima facie case had been established at this stage. It further held that the balance of convenience lay in favour of the plaintiff and that permitting the release pending adjudication could result in irreparable injury. Consequently, notice has been issued to the respondents, directing them to enter appearance and file their objections.

The order has, for now, brought the film’s release to a standstill, shifting the burden onto the producers and concerned parties to seek vacating, modification, or clarification of the interim relief. The respondents are expected to challenge the injunction on grounds including the maintainability of the suit and the absence of any enforceable legal right as claimed by the plaintiff.

The matter is posted for further hearing, where the court will examine submissions from both sides before deciding on the continuation or vacation of the interim order. Until such determination, the stay remains operative, leaving the immediate release prospects of Boss contingent upon the outcome of the pending civil proceedings
