ZEE5, India’s largest homegrown OTT platform, in collaboration with PRK Productions, has announced its new Kannada original series titled Maarigallu. After recently presenting Kannada audiences with originals such as Ayyanna Mane and Shodha, ZEE5 is now set to expand its line-up with Maarigallu—a divine folklore thriller directed by Devraj Poojary that is deeply rooted in Karnataka’s history and culture.
Set in the 1990s, the story takes inspiration from the legend of a long-lost Kadamba dynasty treasure. History recalls Mayura Sharma, the first king of Karnataka, under whose reign the dynasty flourished. Folklore says the treasure was hidden away and continues to be protected by Maari, the guardian deity of the region.
Through this backdrop, Maarigallu unfolds an intense story of greed, betrayal, faith, and destiny, merging cultural richness with gripping suspense. Speaking about the series, Producer Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar said, “At PRK Productions, we believe in stories that connect with people while staying rooted in our traditions. Maarigallu is not just a thriller—it is a celebration of Karnataka’s heritage told through mystery and folklore. Partnering with ZEE5 makes this journey even more meaningful, as the series reflects namma bhashe and namma kathaegalu.”

Beyond its engaging premise, the series also carries deep emotional value as it fulfils the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s vision of bringing premium Kannada originals to OTT through PRK Productions. Maarigallu stands as a tribute to that dream, combining cultural pride with universal appeal.
Maarigallu's music by Mutu Ganesh, has cinematography handled by SK Rao, and will premiere soon, exclusively on ZEE5.
