There’s an unmistakable happiness when Pratheek Shetty talks about his recent recognition. The talented editor and cinematographer has bagged the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Editing for 777 Charlie, the 2022 blockbuster that continues to hold a special place in audiences’ hearts.

For Pratheek, the award is more than a trophy — it’s a reminder of a five-year journey filled with passion, long hours, and creative collaboration. “I’m super happy to share that I’ve received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Editing for 777 Charlie. Working with Kiranraj and Rakshit Shetty sir has always been a joy. I’m truly thankful to Paramvah Studios and director Kiranraj for their trust and creative freedom. It feels amazing to see all that effort recognised,” he says.

Balancing two creative disciplines, Pratheek often switches between editing and cinematography, a mix he believes sharpens his storytelling instincts. “One teaches me how to see emotion, and the other teaches me how to feel it. Both keep me learning and push me as a filmmaker,” he reflects.

Through his studio, Dark Bird Films, Pratheek continues to explore fresh ideas and collaborations that challenge his craft. He’s currently involved in multiple projects, including Marnami, 8, Dimsol, and Heggana Muddhu under Dhananjaya’s Daali Pictures. Looking ahead, he shares his excitement about returning to familiar creative partnerships. “I’m also looking forward to reuniting with Rakshit Shetty on his upcoming directorial Richard Anthony, and with Kiranraj on his next film,” he adds.

Recently, Pratheek also contributed as the second-unit cinematographer for the Tamil film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by AR Murugadoss — a testament to his growing presence beyond Kannada cinema.

As he talks about his journey, Pratheek remains grounded. “I feel inspired to see the journey growing,” he says.
