For years, classmates called Komal Kumar, 'Kona Kona', a teasing nickname that once irritated him. Today, the actor smiles at the memory. “Back in school, my teacher used to call me Kona Kona, and I would get angry. Now I am starring in a film with the same name. Life has its funny ways,” he says.
Kona, set to release across Karnataka on October 31, marks a refreshing subject for Komal, blending dark humour with real emotions. The film comes from Kuppandas Productions, led by Bigg Boss fame Tanisha Kuppanda, along with Karthik Kiran Sankapal and Ravi Kiran N, while Suriyan joins as co-producer.
Tanisha, who also plays Lakshmi, Komal’s on-screen wife, takes on a new challenge both in front of and behind the camera. “In Kona, I play a character that audiences have never seen from me before. Some might even wonder if it is really me. Producing this film was a big step, and I could not have done it without the support of Ravi Kiran sir and Karthik sir,” she says.
Directed by Hari Krishna S with State Award-winning filmmaker Nagesh N as co-director, Kona is inspired by a true incident and promises to uncover the humour that hides in life’s sharp turns. The technical team includes Venus Nagaraj Murthy for cinematography, Shashank Sheshagiri for music and background score, and Umesh R B as editor.
The cast also features Rithvi Jagadhish, Namratha Gowda, Vinay Gowda, Raghu Ramankoppa, Vijay Chendur, MK Mutt, Ranjith Gowda, Thukali Santhosh, Jagappa, and Manju Pavagada.
