A surreal and disturbing development has shaken Kannada cinema’s heartland: the sudden, overnight removal of Dr Vishnuvardhan’s memorial from Abhiman Studio grounds—the very site where his last rites were held. Fans have erupted in vocal outrage, insisting that the tribute must be reconstructed, precisely where it stood. While Sudeep was among the first to react, the latest is coming ‘Real Star’ Upendra captured the sentiment:
“Property may perish, but not the spirit… Our 'Kothigobba' Sahasa Simha Dr Vishnu Sir will remain eternal in the hearts of crores like me.”
However, his message ignited a fiery rejoinder from Veerakaputra Srinivas of the Dr Vishnu Sena Samithi. Srinivas retorted on his social media platform:
“Come, Upendra sir… Let’s go and demolish the memorials of every achiever in the state and country.”
His biting statement—interpreted by many as sarcasm-laced protest—added fuel to already blazing emotions.
Actor Srimurali did not hold back. He called the episode “deeply hurtful,” says, “Dr Vishnuvardhan was a towering talent whose legacy our industry must preserve. This removal is nothing short of contempt.” He urged urgent reparative action, underscoring that this isn’t about bricks and mortar—but a symbol of enduring reverence toward the “Sahasa Simha.”
Prajwal Devaraj posts, mentions, "No limits to legacy, fans are his temple."
Political leaders join the chorus
The call for justice went all the way to the corridors of power. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje penned a forceful letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, lamenting that such a revered legacy could be so carelessly erased. She demanded that the Kannada and Culture Department acquire the land, provide rightful compensation, safeguard the memorial, and elevate the site into a cultural-living monument—a national tourist landmark honoring a cinematic icon.
