In the wake of the demolition of legendary actor Dr Vishnuvardhan’s memorial at Abhiman Studio, Kichcha Sudeep has voiced deep hurt and resolve. In a heartfelt video message, he said he is ready to personally buy the land from its current owners and rebuild a memorial — with the support of thousands of fans.
“Vishnuvardhan is not just a name — he is an emotion, a lifelong respect. When I heard the memorial was torn down, it felt like seeing a temple — one we prayed at for years — being destroyed. They say it was done under High Court orders, but we had fought hard through ministers and the government to save it. I myself offered to bear any cost required,” Sudeep shared.
He acknowledged the court’s stand — that the cremation spot is not the official memorial, as Mysuru already hosts one — but insisted there must be a place in Bengaluru for fans to pray, celebrate his birthday, and pay respects. “If the land is privately owned, I’m willing to approach the owners with humility and request at least the portion that held the memorial. If money is needed, I and lakhs of fans will come forward. All I ask is a chance to restore it.”
Sudeep also reflected on Vishnuvardhan’s own words — his wish to merge with the five elements and not be confined to a building. “In a way, that wish has been fulfilled. But for us, the fans, a symbolic space is still necessary.”
In his video message, Sudeep urged fans to stop pleading with authorities who have long ignored them. “What happened should never have happened. Those in power could have stopped it with a small effort — they didn’t. Now, instead of begging, let’s focus on what can be done next. Veerakputra Srinivas has plans for a grand statue — I will help in every way possible. Cry for ten minutes, but on the eleventh, think about the next step. Extending hands isn’t enough — let’s act.”
Sudeep closed with a plea: “Don’t betray the love and respect people have for him. Give us that place," requests Kichcha Sudeep.
