
Filmmaker Ranjith Sankar, best known for his Punyalan films and Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam, took to his Instagram Stories to praise producer-actor Raj B Shetty and director-actor JP Thuminad's film Su from So. Calling it an example of "smart commercial cinema," Ranjith said that the film is a result of "conviction, teamwork, having fun, and forgetting the results."
Su from So is a slice-of-life film that follows a youngster (Thuminad himself) trying to evade the ghost of an old lady (Sulochana) from an adjacent village. The film also stars Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arakere, Prakash Thuminadu, and Deepak Rai Panaje.
Su from So belongs to the type of cinema—slice-of-life film—that Ranjith Sankar specialises in. Starting from his debut Passenger (2009) to Punyalan Agarbattis (2013), and Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam (2015) to Punyalan Private Limited (2017), Ranjith Sankar has made many films that capture the charm and simplicity of daily living experiences. In other words, the type of films that we describe as "slice-of-life" films. Ranjith is also known for his horror comedy films (the Pretham duology), the genre that the Raj B Shetty film belongs to. Therefore, his praise for Su from So is a major sign of acknowledge for the film's quality.
Beyond its first market, Karnataka, the film is earning plenty of appreciation from audiences in Kerala as well. Many people in Kerala are aware of Raj B Shetty's Kannada films as the actor speaks Malayalam and has appeared in some Malayalam films, most notably Turbo alongside Mammootty.
