The bilingual action drama Kaljiga, directed by Suman Suvarna, will be released in both Kannada and Tulu on September 13. The film, starring Arjun Kapikad and Sushmita Bhatt, had its trailer unveiled at a grand event in Mangaluru, attended by prominent local cultural figures, including MLA Vedavyas Kamath, former minister Ramanath Rai, and veteran Tulu star Devadas Kapikad. The event celebrated both cinema and tradition, honouring daiva narthakas Mayila Kuttaru, Raghava Kuttaru, and folk singer Kuttaru Thimmakkan for their contributions to Tulu culture and emphasising the film's strong connection to local heritage.
Kaljiga, produced under the Himani Films banner, is set against the picturesque seashores of the coastal region, and explores the theme of injustice clashing with righteousness. The production team is led by producer Sarath Kumar AK and features Shanil Guru of Kantara fame as the creative head, with Radhakrishna Manila and Sandeep Shetty handling executive production.
Arjun Kapikad, known as the king of action in Tulu cinema, plays the lead in the film, with Sushmita Bhatt as the heroine. The film also marks the directorial debut of Suman Suvarna. It has music composed by the legendary Hamsalekha, cinematography by Sachin Shetty, and editing by Yashwin K Shettigar.
The makers are looking to release Kaljiga in various locations, including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and even in the Gulf countries.
