
Suraag, the son of the popular music composer, actor and filmmaker Sadhu Kokila, is set to make his directorial debut. Having worked as a composer in films like Shivarjuna and Athiratha, and as an associate director in Upendra’s Uppi2, the young talent will be helming famous Tamil comedy actor Yogi Babu in his debut film. The shooting of the comical comedy thriller has begun and he has completed a schedule.
Sadhu Kokila, known for his musical prowess, will compose the music for this film. Ashwin, who has previously worked on Loveli, which is yet to release will be handling the cinematography of the film. About roping in Yogi Babu for his directorial debut, Suraag shares, “Yogi Sir and I have been in talks for almost a year, and things have finally fallen into place. I have completed a 10-day shoot which also involved Kannada actors Umashree and Avinash. I am currently preparing for the schedule, which will resume soon.”
Suraag has always aspired to be a filmmaker and gained experience by working with various directors, including his collaboration with Upendra and others, aside from shooting ads and documentaries. “Ten years ago, I ventured into direction, and this first feature film is the culmination of my efforts,” says Suraag, adding, “The script for this project was conceived 6 to 7 years ago and was originally planned to start before the pandemic, but it got postponed and has finally commenced now.”
The project will be produced under his home banner, Loop Entertainment Studio. Suraag plans to bring together artists from different South Indian languages, showcasing a diverse cast in this untitled project. He is currently in talks with various actors and popular comedians. “We will have 3 to 4 lead characters in the comedy thriller,” he reveals, and adds that the current focus is on completing the shoot in Tamil, and the decision to release the film in multiple languages will be made later.
