They say, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’ Similarly, Nishvika remarks that her glamorous look in the song 'Hithalaka Karibyada Maava', in which she dances alongside Prabhudheva, doesn’t reflect the role she plays in the Yogaraj Bhat directorial Karataka Damanaka. The film, bankrolled by Rockline Entertainment also stars Shivarajkumar and Priya Anand in the ensemble cast.

Talking to CE ahead of the film’s release this week (March8), she reveals that her role in the film is mostly the opposite of glamourised. “Post Guru Shishayaru, I have often been approached to play a village belle. However, in Karataka Damanaka, set in a North Karnataka village, my role is not just the exact opposite of glamaourised. I play Kempi, a woman ostracized by society, involved in the family liquor business, and silenced by inequality and societal opinions. I come across as this quiet, selfless girl without a voice,” she says.

Nishvika admits that she particularly values the song 'Hitalaka Karibyada' Maava because she got the opportunity to dance alongside none other than Prabhudheva. “The moment I learned I was paired opposite Prabhudheva, my only wish was for a dance number with him. I was adamant about it until I got the confirmation from the team. When I finally got the opportunity, I wondered how I would pull off dancing with such a stalwart,” she adds. “The song is a dream sequence, meant to exude glamour. But more importantly, it’s with Prabhudheva. I tried my best to match his steps, but his spontaneity and ease were unparalleled. It’s like he lives and breathes dance effortlessly. I had to cancel a trip to London to rehearse for this song, for six days consecutively. As Prabhudheva believes in perfection in dance and on-screen chemistry, the song required some prior work, and he dedicatedly rehearsed with me throughout.”

“Equally, he is a fantastic actor,” Nishvika says about Prabhudheva. “When we were shooting, we went for retakes because there were times he would be hilarious during takes, which would result in Priya and I laughing out loud. For him, it is not just about delivering dialogue, but also how one performs a scene. As a dancer, he is the Indian Michael Jackson, so I can’t say which one was better. I enjoyed watching him perform and dance.”
Nishvika, describing the on-screen chemistry between Shivarajkumar and Prabhudheva as ‘insane’, also mentions that the former’s presence on screen is captivating.

“He exudes innocence with a subtle yet impeccable sense of humour. His portrayal makes you fall in love with the character,” she remarks. Nishvika also cherishes her bond with Priya Anand, stating, “I have developed a genuine friendship with Priya Anand, which I will carry with me for life. We shared wonderful moments off-screen. I used to always look for Priya when I reached the film’s sets. She is not only an amazing person, but also honest and authentic as her performances.”

Nishvika has emerged as the latest muse of director Yogaraj Bhat, who has featured her in multiple films and is now one of the female leads in Karataka Damanaka. “I have been fortunate to be repeatedly chosen by directors, and I believe it’s because I establish a strong rapport with the team first,” Nishvika shares. “I can openly discuss ideas, which facilitates progress. I consider myself a director’s actor, dedicated to fulfilling their vision. So far, it has served me well. As for Yogaraj Bhat, he has pushed me to explore new facets of acting. Whether it’s a cameo in Gaalipata 2 or a special song in Garadi, it has only proven successful. I strive to meet his expectations.”

As she navigates her career, Nishvika likes to commit to quality over quantity. “I am discerning about the roles I take on. I refuse to do anything just for the sake of visibility or to fill a void. I prefer to wait for opportunities that elevate my career or satisfy me as an actor. This approach has proven effective for me. Amidst the plethora of offers, I selectively choose the ones that connect with me and the audience the most. While I am open to working in other languages, I am awaiting the right projects and characters that align with my vision,” she signs off.
