Legendary comedian and Tulu filmmaker Devdas Kapikad is venturing into Kannada cinema with Purushothamana Prasanga, which also marks the debut of Ajaya Prithvi Rashtrakuta in the lead. Rashtrakuta Pictures, the makers of the family comedy-drama, has now announced that the film will hit theatres on March 1. Speaking on the sidelines of the release date announcement, Devdas Kapikad shares, "It was luck that brought me here. Producers Ravikumar and Santhudeen called me one fine day and asked me to make a film. I was quite hesitant initially and pondered over it for a while. Then I decided to make the film and I went on to narrate a story. They agreed very happily, and from there, my journey of directing my first Kannada film began." He further expressed his gratitude for the encouragement received from the production team.
When asked about the story of Purushothamana Prasanga, the director reveals that it's a completely family-oriented tale. "It's a story that everyone will enjoy. It includes various elements such as children's and parents' love for foreign countries and the greatness of our country," says Kapikad. Shedding more light on the film's comedy, he adds, "Purushothamana Prasanga offers situational comedy that naturally flows according to the circumstances. This is a film that will have the Mangalore Kannada dialect, with its sentiment holding great importance."
On Ajaya, the lead, Kapikad says, "Ajaya is someone who has received acting training abroad. He is an actor who does everything with interest and without any ego. He has well understood the intricacies of the character he plays."
The film has been shot in Mangalore and Dubai. "Purushothamana Prasanga has four songs, with music handled by Nagendra Prasad, and I have penned the lyrics for the songs," Devadas reveals.
Speaking about the challenges he faced while directing his first Kannada film, Kapikad signs off, "It was indeed challenging. But everything came together very well with the preparation and the support of the team. Many artists from the Tulu film industry have acted in the film, providing significant support."
