Veteran Kannada filmmaker S Mahendar, a cinematic force with over three decades of experience, is all set to return to the director's chair. His upcoming investigative thriller, Operation Kombudikki, promises to be a landmark project in his illustrious career. Adding to the excitement is the casting of actor Kishore, renowned for his powerful performances, in a pivotal role.
Produced by Anup Hanumanthe Gowda, the mastermind behind the successful Shivaji Surathkal series, Operation Kombudikki marks the producer's third venture. The producer is understandably thrilled to collaborate with both Mahendar and Kishore on this project. “It’s a dream come true to collaborate with a legend like S Mahendar. His vision and experience are unmatched, and we’re excited to bring this story to life through actor Kishore,” says Anup.
Mahendar, whose filmography boasts 32 films including classics like Thayi Illada Thavaru, Ninagagi, Karpoorada Gombe, Kourava, and Vaalee, shares his motivation for returning to the director's chair. "To make a successful film today, one needs a supportive producer, a compelling script, and the ability to inspire the team while staying relevant. Unfortunately, many producers are solely business-oriented, trying to merge multiple scripts or pushing for nepotism. Others simply lack a cinematic vision. These factors have often discouraged me. However, Operation Kombudikki has all the right elements for a successful film," Mahendar explains.
What excites Mahendar most about this project is working with Kishore. “Kishore was our first choice from the script's inception. Directing Kishore has been a long-held dream of mine, and Operation Kombudikki is making it a reality. Thankfully, he agreed to join the project. Our collaboration is truly exciting," Mahendar shares.
The film will feature Ravi Basrur as the music composer, Karunakar as the cinematographer, and Deepu S Kumar as the editor. Billed to be an investigative thriller, Operation Kombudikki is planned to be filmed in various locations, including Male Mahadeshwara Betta in Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu and Wayanad. Kishore is confirmed to lead the cast of Operation Kombudikki, with the remaining roles in the final stages of selection. The film is expected to go on floors in September.
