Virat S Gowda, a banker, who left his job to follow his passion for cinema, is making his directorial debut with Juliet 2. Interestingly, Juliet 2 will release ahead of the film's prequel, titled Juliet 1.
"Juliet 1 is placed 30 years in the past, and setting up the period will definitely require a bigger budget. Since our team is relatively new, we thought it best not to take risks with the investment. So we decided to go with Juliet 2, " says the first-time director, who has covered 20 per cent of the portions for the prequel, even while shooting for Juliet 2.
Juliet 2, produced by Likith Koitan, under the PL Productions banner, is billed as a women-centric subject, starring Brinda Acharya in the lead along with Roy Badira, Kush Acharya. Talking about what inspired him to make Juliet 2, Virat says, "It was a newspaper article, which was about a young girl questioning society about the idea of 'real independence.' It spoke about how women are often blamed for their dressing sense, and insisted they learn the art of self-defense. Juliet 2 is essentially about this idea."
Delving more into the character played by Brinda, Virat says, "Juliet undergoes a grim reality after a particularly untoward incident. We also see her happy side where she has a wonderful bonding with her father, who taught her certain important life skills. However, the untimely demise of her father, pushes her to deal with her problems, its consequences, and difficulties all alone. How self-defense is important for every woman will be the underlying theme of our film."
Juliet 2, which is slated to release on February 24, has music scored by Sandeep Ballal and Rajath Rao. The background score is composed by Sachin Basrur and Shento Vato has handled the cinematography.
