Eminent filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, known for films like Mulk, Thappad, Article 15, and Assi, recently launched his new music label Benaras Beat. The filmmaker recently spoke about the creative journey behind the label, also talking about the debut track ‘Barish aur Tum’ came into place.
In a newly released BTS video capturing the memories of jamming sessions shared between Anubhav Sinha, composer Shashi Suman, lyricist Abhendra Kumar Upadhyay, and vocalist Abdul Shaikh, Anubhav said, "The very first line of this song's opening verse was an absolute clincher for me... I completely fell for it right then and there." Also, the filmmaker’s idea of adding a humming vocal to the song resonated with composer Shashi Suman, lyricist Abhendra Kumar Upadhyay, and singer Abdul Shaikh.
While Sinha humbly insists his role was minimal, the team revealed how his foresight transformed the composition, including his push for the humming that added a new layer of calmness and emotional depth. Further talking about his creative process, Anubhav said, “Whenever I have worked with composers, they give me the credit… but I still don't understand what I give. If I knew this is a skill, then I should make it better. However, it is not a skill.” To which, Shashi replied, “I feel a kind of comfort in working with you. If I am able to think something unique or try to create something unique, then you are open to create something unique.”
Written and composed around the magic of rain and memories by Shashi Suman, the song is sung by Abdul Shaikh, who brought a soulful depth to the track, capturing the true essence of love and nostalgia.
Moving beyond film tracks, Benaras Beat aims to offer listeners original, independent compositions that showcase a different dimension of Sinha's creative journey. This idea, which germinated nearly eight years ago and finally came to fruition with Sinha building a dedicated team of composers and creators., represents a personal passion project rooted in a lifelong love for music.
With ‘Barish Aur Tum,’ Benaras Beat officially steps into the music landscape with a promise to deliver heartfelt, independent compositions rooted in real human emotions.
