The Delhi High Court has granted an ex-parte ad-interim injunction against illegal streaming sites, ahead of the commencement of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This injunction is directed against rogue streamers of both the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and the ICC Under-19 Men's T20 World Cup, for which JioStar has the exclusive rights for broadcasts in India.
The Delhi High Court's ruling is directed to Domain Name Registrars, Internet Service Providers, Department of Telecommunications, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India, to immediately prohibit these rogue sites from streaming the telecasts of the matches of both tournaments.
The broadcasting rights for the ICC Under-19 Men's T20 World Cup, which began on January 15, and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which is set to begin on February 7, belongs to JioStar and its subsidiaries, including the OTT platform JioHotstar, which streams the matches of the tournaments, live.
The ruling also directs the above mentioned organisations to enforce this injunction in real time and also everytime JioStar provides information, regarding new websites, without any further court proceedings. The Court mentioned that any delays in upholding this injunction can lead to irreparable harm, loss of revenue, dilution of exclusive rights.
