Earlier this Saturday, The Viral Fever (TVF) announced that they are making their debut in Marathi cinema with a film titled Bayangi. A supernatural comedy thriller, the film takes inspiration from one of the "most haunting folktales" in the Konkan region. Directed by Abhay Raut, the film features Amey Wagh as the lead actor alongside Hardeek joshi, Manmeet Pem, and Avinash Khedekar, who star in important roles.
The film is produced by The Viral Fever, with Anandeshwar Dwivedi and Vijay Koshy serving as co-producers. The tagline for the film reads, "Palayachi nahi, talaychi," which roughly means, "Don’t flee from it—find a way to avert it."
The makers describe it as "an interesting, quirky, and humour-filled story." The title refers to a supernatural entity trapped within a coconut which promises prosperity for the one who owns it.
Bayangi Plot
As four unmarried people stumble upon a Bayangi, it turns their lives into a perilous game in which all wishes come true, although with terrifying consequences. The bachelors feel that they have found a secret way to lead luxurious lives, but their excitement recedes as they face a nightmarish time when they learn that all wishes come at a price, regardless of whether these are small or big.
TVF reunites with Abhay Raut for landmark project
Bayangi brings The Viral Fever back together director Abhay Raut after their collaboration on Gullak season 5, which was released on Sony LIV in June this year.
The upcoming film continues TVF's attempts to cement their place in the supernatural space. Otherwise known for their slice-of-life comedies, such as Panchayat, Gullak, and Kota Factory, the producer is also attached to the upcoming horror-thriller Vvan - Force of the Forrest. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, Vvan also has supernatural and folklore elements.
