The Odia film Bindusagar is set to have its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. Directed by Abhishek Swain from an Abhishek Das screenplay, the film will premiere as part of the prestigious Gala Presentation at IFFI, scheduled to take place between November 20 and 28. Billed as one of Odia cinema’s highly anticipated films, Bindusagar is produced by Shiladitya Bora under his Platoon One Films banner, alongside Boundless Blackbuck Films’ Vinay Reddy and Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee, as well as in association with MDC Filmworks’ Nikhil Chaudhary. The ensemble cast includes Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Prakruti Mishra, Sonalli Sharmisstha, Satya Ranjan, Sukant Rath, Robin Das, and Pranab Rath.
According to the official description, the film follows a youngster (Prakruti Mishra) who tries to reconnect with her historical roots. The protagonist’s journey intersects with an old man's spiritual pursuit as he comes to terms with a loved one's loss. Their paths cross in Bhubaneswar. According to the makers, the film offers “a shared exploration of love, loss, and belonging.”
Speaking about the film and its world premiere, producer Shiladitya said, “Odisha has a rich cinematic legacy that deserves a global stage. We believe that this is the moment of rebirth for Odia storytelling. We hope to contribute to a new era where Odia films travel, win hearts, and take their rightful place internationally. This film is our humble beginning in that direction.”
Meanwhile, actor Prakruti Mishra said, “Bindusagar isn’t just a film, it's an emotion — a bridge between our roots and the world. For me, and for Shreeja, it’s a journey of love, loss, and rediscovery that speaks to anyone who has ever looked for a piece of home in a faraway place. As an Odia and as an artist, being part of the first Odia film to reach global audiences is both humbling and historic. It fills me with immense pride to see our stories stepping onto the world stage, carrying the fragrance, warmth, and soul of Odisha to hearts everywhere.”
On the other hand, director Abhishek said, “With Bindusagar, we wanted to take a hyperlocal story rooted deeply in Odia culture and present it through a universal cinematic lens. The idea was to create a film that stays true to its soil while resonating emotionally with audiences everywhere — across classes and masses alike. IFFI is the ideal platform for its first showcase, and we are grateful to premiere this story on such a prestigious global stage.”
The makers eye an early 2026 release for the film.
