Squid Game fans can finally heave a sigh of relief as Gi-hun is officially back. After a failed rebellion inside the games and the loss of his most-trusted ally, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is faced with the reality of the identity of the Front Man being Player 001. He has come back to the games, alive and well after a major cliffhanger in Squid Game season 2 revealed him to be at gunpoint.
The trailer of season 3 released by Netflix shows Gi-hun facing an even messier, deadlier and bloodier game with a secret gumball machine deciding the players' fate. The trailer ends with a mysterious cry from a baby, suggesting that one of the players might have given birth. Worse, the baby might too may be a part of the game since they have been a part of it.
As per the plotline, Squid Game season 3 "thrusts Gi-hun (Player 456) back into the brutal heart of the games, determined to dismantle them once and for all. Still haunted by the betrayal and loss of his closest ally, Jung-bae (Player 390), Gi-hun faces new perils — including the Front Man, who shockingly infiltrated their rebellion disguised as Player 001."
Season 3 also stars Lee Byung-hun, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yu-ri, Chae Kuk-hee, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, and Jun Suk-ho, with special appearance by Park Hee-soon.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys, becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, once again helms the series as director, writer, and producer.
Squid Game season 2 was released in December 26 to a record viewership across the world. Gi-hun, who won the game in the first season was determined to stop the games for which he had to get back into the same deadly games. The twist was that each game had been changed and renewed.
Produced by Firstman Studio, executive producers include Hwang and Kim Ji-yeon.
Squid Game season 3 drops on Netflix on June 27.
