Producer Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films) has ventured into Odia cinema, backing the upcoming film, Bindusagar. Its title announcement promo was unveiled on Thursday. The film is written by Abhishek Das and directed by Abhishek Swain.
The official logline of the film, as shared by the makers reads, "When a young woman's quest to discover her roots intersects with a grieving father's journey to faith, they find redemption and purpose in the ancient city of Bhubaneswar.”
Speaking about the Odia film industry, Shiladitya said in a press release, “Odisha’s producing some fantastic content in recent times, however it’s still underexposed to the audiences across the world. The Odia film industry is on the verge of breaking out, and we want to be one of the early movers when that happens. We want to make a film that will appeal equally to the youth, working class as well as to the Odia diaspora living overseas. A film that is authentic, deeply rooted in the soil, with nostalgic value and blended with excellent music. Bindusagar is our vision of ‘Made in Odisha, for the world’”.
Director Abhishek added, “Platoon One's entry can be a game change for Odia cinema. With their deep understanding of local content for the global audiences and distribution bandwidth, Bindusgar may turn out to be the first truly global Odia film. We are super excited with the prospect of taking our film, culture and music to audiences worldwide."
The film has been shot in Odisha and London and stars Prakruti Mishra, Dipanwit Dashmohapatra and Robin Das. It will feature a 7-song album with music by some of the biggest names from the music industry.
Along with Shiladitya, the film is produced by Vinay Reddy, Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee in association with Nikhil Chaudhry MDC Filmworks.
Shiladitya is known for producing films like Yours Truly (2018), Picasso (2019) and Bhagwan Bharose (2023). The team also recently wrapped the shoot of Huma Qureshi-starrer Bayaan, which also features Chandrachur Singh and Sachin Khedekar. The film was developed at Film Independent, LA, under the mentorship of Craig Mazin (HBO’s The Last of Us & Chernobyl).
