The South Korean film Parasite, which won the Best Picture Oscar and earned Bong Joon-ho a Best Director at the 2020 Academy Awards, has turned five this year. To mark the occasion, the makers of the film decided to release it again in select theatres in the US on February 07. In the film, a poor family works as servants for a rich family to get into the latter, contributing to a set of tragic social repercussions. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Park So-Dam, Choi Woo-Shik, Jang Hye-Jin, Cho Yeo-Jeong, Lee Jung-Eun, Park Myeong-Hoon, Jung Ji-So, and Jung Hyeon-Jun.
After Parasite won him Best Director Oscar, Bong Joon-ho made a remark in his acceptance speech that has been quoted numerous times since. "Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films," he said. The rerelease of Parasite is an opportunity for audiences to overcome that barrier once again and immerse themselves in the magic of this masterful film.
Parasite released originally in South Korea on May 30, 2019, and in the US in October that year. A re-release of Parasite is expected in India as well.
