
After a brief break of 7 years, director Pawel Pawlikowski, has begun production on his new film, 1949. Oscar nominee Sandra Huller will join the biopic, according to Deadline.
The cast for 1949 includes August Diehl, Anna Madeley, Devid Striesow, Theo Trebs, and Hanns Zischler. Edward Berger, who has directed All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, serves as a producer for the film.
1949 follows the story of German writer Thomas Mann (Zischler) and his daughter Erika (Huller), as they undertake a roadtrip from the US controlled Frankfurt to the Soviet controlled Weimar. The film will explore the relationship between the two.
Pawlikowski previously directed Cold War (2018), which was a romantic drama set in the eponymous time period. For the film Pawlikowski was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director. Meanwhile, Huller was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, for Justine Triet's Anatomy of a Fall.
