John Cusack starrer Chinese film Decoded to release internationally

The Decoded distributor CMC Pictures has announced its plan to release the cryptography thriller, starring Liu Haoran and John Cusack, in theatres worldwide at the end of August. The announcement comes as the film is set to hit theatres in China on Saturday. It is directed by Chen Sicheng, who is among the most successful writer-producer-directors in China. Sicheng directed it from a screenplay that Chen and Christopher MacBride wrote based on Mai Jia’s novel of the same name.

Decoded revolves around an autistic youngster named Rong Jinzhen (Haoran) possessing expertise in mathematics. Cusack plays Rong’s professor, who is aware of the youngster’s knack for untangling complex knots in mathematics. Eventually, Rong’s skill contributes to him giving up academics after he gets hired as a spy and codebreaker. The film, shot on Imax-certified cameras, also stars Chen Daoming, Yu Feihong, and Daniel Wu in pivotal roles. Ren Luyao, Chen Yusi, Wang Yutian, Zhou You, and Zhu Zhu round out the cast.

Decoded marks Cusack’s second outing in a Chinese production, following a role in Mikael Hafstrom’s period film Shanghai.
