Aparna Sen’s ‘Her Indian Summer’ being developed as Indo-British production

Aparna Sen's film Her Indian Summer is being made as a co-production between India and the UK, as disclosed in a retrospective of the actor-director's work in London. Variety first reported the news. Big Bazaar Films, which belongs to British director-writer Alex Harvey, and Kolkata-based filmmaker Aritra Sen are producing the film. It is described as a story of mixed-race romance set against the partition of the Asian subcontinent into Pakistan and India in 1947.

“I am really excited about my story Her Indian Summer, which I see as an Indo-U.K. co-production with major British and Indian actors. I am delighted that Alex Harvey and Aritra Sen of Big Bazar Films are taking this project forward and hope to start filming soon,” said Aparna.

"We’re delighted to be working with Aparna on an original story, which will be an English-language film just like her first,” stated Aritra Sen.

As an actor, Aparna got noticed for her role in the segment Samapti from Satyajit Ray's film Three Daughters. Besides Ray, she worked with the likes of Mrinal Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, and Tapan Sinha. She also acted in the films The Guru and Bombay Talkie. She made her debut as a director with 36 Chowringhee Lane, which earned her the best director award at 1981's National Film Awards. Since then, she directed films such as Paroma, Paromitar Ek Din, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Goynar Baksho, and The Rapist.

Aparna is also collaborating with Big Bazaar Films and director Harvey on documentary about Kolkata and Satyajit Ray, titled Forest of Humans.
