Mexico has selected Tótem as the country's representation to compete under the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2024 race.

Directed by Lila Avilés, it is the filmmaker's second directorial after The Chambermaid. A family drama, Tótem stars debutant Naíma Sentíes as a seven-year-old who is in the middle of a surprise party being planned for her not only dying, but also estranged father.

The film is produced by the director along with Tatiana Graullera, and Louise Riousse.

Others part of the cast include Montserrat Marañon, Marisol Gasê, Saori Gurza, Mateo García Elizondo, Teresita Sánchez, Francisco Maldonado, Iazua Larios and Alberto Amador.
