

Mongolia has selected indie drama City of Wind as its official entry to the Oscars 2024 race under the International Feature Film category.
The film marks the directorial debut of Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir and had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti Competition section. Actor Tergel Bold-Erdene won the Venice Horizons Award for Best Actor.
City of Wind follows the life of 17-year-old shaman Ze of his village, who also is a hard-working student aiming to become better in life. Set in Mongolia, when Ze meets Maralaa, his life changes as new found reality gives him a different perspective.
The film stars Tergel Bold-Erdene, Nomin-Erdene Ariunbyamba, Bulgan Chuluunbat, Ganzorig Tsetsgee, and Tsend-Ayush Nyamsuren, among others. It is backed by Katia Khazak and Charlotte Vincent. Besides directing, Purev-Ochir also adapted the film which is based on her debut short Mountain Cat.
