Netflix has begun production of its upcoming film which will be an adaptation of Pedro Parama, a novel by Juan Rulfo which is considered one of the important literary works of Mexico.
Renowned cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto will be marking his directorial debut with this film, while it was adapted to screen by Mateo Gil.
“Pedro Páramo was deeply impactful for me from the first time I read it, and bringing this novel by Juan Rulfo to the screen will be a feat in all aspects. We are constantly searching for our roots, for who we are, and this really appeals to me from the novel. I can especially relate to Juan Preciado, who is looking for himself and for his country while searching for his father. He represents the Mexican people in that we are mixed– mixed in our roots and our races," said Rodrigo in a statement.
The cast of Pedro Páramo consists of Manuel García-Rulfo, Tenoch Huerta, Ilse Salas, Mayra Batalla, Héctor Kotsifakis, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Giovanna Zacarías, Noé Hernández and Yoshira Escárrega among others.
The film is expected to debut sometime in 2024. The technical crew consists of Eugenio Caballero and Carlos Y Jacques as production design and music scored by Gustavo Santaolalla.
