Dharamshala International Film Festival returns on ground, reveals first line-up

The 11th edition of the Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) will be held on ground in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, from November 3 to 6. The previous two editions of the mountainside festival were held online due to pandemic-imposed restrictions.

This year, ten narrative features and documentaries from India and around the world are in the initial line-up.

The films are: Pokhar Ke Dunu Paar (On Either Sides of the Pond) directed by Parth Saurabh, Fire in the Mountains directed by Ajitpal Singh, Once Upon a Time in Calcutta directed by Aditya Vikram Sengupta, Shankar’s Fairies directed by Irfana Majumdar, The Eclipss directed by Nataša Urban, In Viaggio directed by Gianfranco Rosi, Flee directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Mother Lode directed by Matteo Tortone and Jiao Ma Tang Hui (A New Old Play) directed by Qiu Jiongjiong.

About 40 contemporary features and documentaries, and a selection of shorts, animation films and experimental films will be screened over the four festival days. DIFF has also partnered with the Festival des 3 Continents’ Produire au Sud (PAS) to launch Filmlab South Asia in Dharamshala from 31 October 31 to 4 November. The workshop will focus on the development of film projects from South Asia that are suitable for international co-productions.

Festival Director Ritu Sarin said, “Now that we are finally back with a physical edition, we are thrilled to announce the first ten titles of what is shaping up to be one of DIFF’s most exciting programmes yet. It’s been an especially challenging selection process this year because we have had to choose from so many amazing films.”

“We will be showcasing the work of some of India’s finest emerging filmmakers, along with new offerings from more established directors. And as always, we will have an unusual and eclectic selection of global cinema. To top it all, we are expecting many filmmakers to come to present their films so audiences are really in for a treat!”
