As we get closer to the end of this year, the Google search engine recently released the results of Year in Search 2022 by giving us a glimpse of what people in India looked for this year. Under the movies category, we have ten films from across the industry.

The list of films is as follows

Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva

Directed by Ayan Mukherjee, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Brahmastra is a superhero-fantasy epic set in the modern world. The film stars Ranbir as a DJ born with the ability to control fire. The cast also featured Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy and others. Produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures, Brahmastra was released on September 9 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. 

KGF: Chapter 2

The Yash-starrer is directed by Prashanth Neel. The highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 actioner featured Sanjay Dutt as the primary antagonist and Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, and Srinidhi Shetty in supporting roles. Produced by Hombale Films, KGF: Chapter 2 has music by Ravi Basrur, while Bhuvan Gowda handled the cinematography. 

The Kashmir Files

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri pandits from the Kashmir valley in the 1990s when militancy was at its peak. The film stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar, Pallavi Joshi and Bhasha Sumbli.

 RRR

Directed by SS Rajamouli, the epic action-drama features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles.  The film's ensemble star cast includes Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris.  RRR is a fictional story that revolves around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR), and their fight against the British Raj. The film opened to positive reviews and fared well at the box office. The film has been pushed for the Oscars with the 'For your consideration' campaigns in all categories.

Kantara

Written, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty revolves around the man vs wild conflict. Ajaneesh Lokanth and Arvind Kashyap have handled the music and cinematography, respectively. Kantara is produced by Hombale Films.

Pushpa: The Rise

Written and directed by Sukumar, Pushpa is produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, among others. Pushpa revolves around a sandalwood smuggler who rises to power.

Vikram

The Kamal Haasan-starrer is directed by Lokesh Kanakaraj. The action entertainer was produced by Kamal’s home banner Raaj Kamal Films International in association with R Mahendran. The film features an ensemble star cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Narain, Gayathrie, Kalidas Jayaram and Arjun Das, among others, in pivotal roles. Suriya appears in a cameo role.

Laal Singh Chaddha

The film, a Hindi remake of Tom Hank- starrer Forrest Gump (1994), stars Aamir Khan in the lead role. Directed by Advait Chandan and written by Atul Kulkarni, Laal Singh Chaddha also features Naga Chaitanya, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.

Drishyam 2

The film starring Ajay Devgn is a remake of 2021’s Malayalam film Drishyam 2. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the narrative focused on a seemingly simple middle-class family of Vijay, who goes to extreme lengths for his family after it is alleged that they have kidnapped and killed a senior police officer’s (Tabu) son.

Thor: Love and Thunder

It's the fourth instalment in Marvel’s Thor film series. It follows the superhero Thor, post the events of Avengers: Endgame, where he was last seen suffering from an existential crisis before deciding to move out of the earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy, in pursuit of purpose and meaning in his life.  Thor: Love and Thunder, also brought Christian Bale into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the terrifying Gorr the God Butcher, a popular character from the Marvel comics. The rest of the cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, TaikaWaititi, Russell Crowe, and Chris Pratt.
