Forty years ago, on October 21, renowned author Gabriel Garcia Marques was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. And now, in a bid to celebrate this landmark, Netflix announced that they started the construction of the universe that will be home to the series based on Gracia's acclaimed novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude. The 1967 novel revolves around an epic tale of seven generations of the Buendia family and it spans hundred years of rough Latin American history from the 1820s to 1920.

Earlier, the streaming giant announced that they will be making a series based on this novel. In the recent statement, they noted that most of the technicians, artists and other crew members are Colombian. Netflix also released a sneak-peek video of pre-production work. The glimpse shows craftsmen creating a miniature of Macondo, the fictional town in the novel, painting the articles, designing the wardrobe, sketches and paintings of the setting.

Meanwhile, the first season will be directed by  Alex García López and Laura Mora. The film's production design is handled by Oscar-winner Eugenio Caballero and his frequent collaborator Bárbara Enríquez.
The technical crew includes director of photography Paulo Perez and costume designer Catherine Rodriguez. According to the streaming platform, the upcoming series will tell the story of Macondo and the Buendia family.
