The trailer of director Payal Kapadia’s Cannes Film Festival 2024 In Competition film All We Imagine As Light is out. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon.

The trailer takes us into the life of Prabha (Kani) and Anu (Divya), two nurses from Kerala who work in Mumbai. Anu has recently sparked off a relationship and is looking for a place to get intimate with her lover. Prabha, on the other hand, receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband which puts her into emotional turmoil. Hridhu plays the role of Anu’s lover while Kadam is an ally to Kani’s character. Through the stories of Prabha and Anu, we explore the dazzle and gloom of Mumbai’s underbelly.

All We Imagine As Light is the first Indian film in competition at Cannes since 1994 and is one of only four female-directed features in the lineup this year. The film will be competing for the coveted Palme d’Or Award at the festival with other films like Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and Kinds of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos.

Payal studied direction at the Film and Television Institute of India, and her 2021 documentary film A Night of Knowing Nothing won the Golden Eye award at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
