The nominations for the 2026 edition of International Emmy Awards were announced on September 23. This time, the Indian entertainment industry has received two nominations at the ceremony.
While the SonyLIV series Real Kashmir Football Club earned a nomination in the Drama Series category, Vir Das' standup special Vir Das: Fool Volume bagged a nomination in the Comedy category. This is the third nomination for Vir Das, who was previously nominated in 2021 and 2023. In 2023, he also won the award for his show Vir Das: Landing.
With this nomination, Vir is now the only Indian who has been nominated thrice at the International Emmys. Talking about the nomination, Vir said, "This special came from a period when I literally lost my voice, so to see something that began in silence travel this far is pretty surreal. For India was the first time I understood that our comedy could find a home on a global stage, Landing gave me an Emmy, and now Fool Volume has brought me back into that conversation."

Meanwhile, Real Kashmir Football Club, which premiered in December 2025 on SonyLIV, is based on the real-life story of Real Kashmir FC, the first professional football club from Jammu and Kashmir. Starring Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Kaul, the series follows two men who set out to build a professional football team in Kashmir whose shared dream grows into a story of determination, community and the possibilities that the sport opens up for everyone around them.
Mahesh Mathai, show-runner & co-director of Real Kashmir Football Club said, “When you come across a great story, don't let it pass you by. Grab a hold of, nurture it, love it, and push it through that long tunnel. It will find the light. We are honoured that this special series has found global recognition through an Emmy nomination.” Zeeshan Ayyub added, “This was an important and relevant story for us to tell, a story of resilience, courage and hard work. We dedicate this recognition to the people of Kashmir, their resilience and the struggles they have endured.”
Produced by Jaya Entertainment and Oshun Entertainment, the show is directed by showrunner Mahesh Mathai and Rajesh Mapuskar. Other nominations in the Drama category include A Thousand Blows, Careme and Menem.
