In the past few weeks, tension has been brewing within members of Cine And TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), after eleven of its members resigned, raising concerns about major decisions being taken without enough consultation with them. While Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure had rejected the allegations, the election process was eventually challenged in court. Now Dhurandhar actor and CINTAA member Rakesh Bedi has commented on the controversy, expressing his concern while also being confident of a quick resolution.
Speaking to ANI, Rakesh Bedi said, “If the committee had been legally dissolved, then the new elections would have taken place, and they would have occupied their position. But they could not. The elections took place, the second committee won, many people did not stand up from this committee. That is fine. But on 26th October, the court will decide whether it is even legal to hold FWICE elections or not. So, till the case is subjudice, no one can do anything about it.
Rakesh Bedi also defended CINTAA authorities, stating, “This is very sad. This should not happen. This is a social work from our side. It is not that they do not work. We did a show with Raj Kapoor, and raised Rs 21 lakhs. I am saying this for the first time, that I made a contribution from my own pocket in that show. I think our committee did a lot of work. We have been to the Commissioner of Labour, for CINTAA welfare. In fact, we do meetings every week. I was the chairman of the scrutiny committee and gave time to it every 15 days. But if there are some disgruntled people, what can be done about them?”
The actor also clarified that he continues to have a good equation with all actors, despite the disputes. He added, “I have no personal enmity with anyone. All are my good friends. Even if you leave CINTAA aside, I have a good equation with every actor. It’s just that the thinking is not matching right now. This will not go on for a long time. CINTAA won’t come to a standstill. My wish is that, whoever comes and runs CINTAA, should work for the benefit of the CINTAA members only. Issue will be settled, if not now then after 26th October.”
The CINTAA elections took place on September 12, after the court gave permission for the polls to proceed, subject to ongoing legal proceedings.
Sharing updates on his film work, Rakesh Bedi also confirmed that he will be seen in upcoming Akshaye Khanna film Mahakali, which is being mounted as a pan-India film. Meanwhile, Prem Keetanu will release theatrically on October 2.
